| Leonardo da Vinci first created the concept of non-human flight in the fifteenth century. After considerable innovation, research and development in the intervening years, today unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are aircraft with no onboard pilot. They are capable of controlled sustained level flight, and are powered by a jet or reciprocating engine. UAV design and production is a global activity with manufacturers across the world. UAVs have a variety of applications in the military, civil and commercial sectors, and even in the world of television and film. |
